Lough Cuan Bowmen
Lough Cuan Bowmen is an archery club based in Newtownards, Co. Down. The Club was founded in 1986
and promotes archery as a competitive sport and a recreation except for hunting (it is illegal to
hunt any creature with a bow and arrow in most EEC countries). Lough Cuan Bowmen is affiliated to
the
Northern Ireland Archery Society (NIAS),
the
Grand National Archery Society (GNAS) and
the
Fédération Internationale de Tir à l'Arc (FITA).
We have links with Clubs across the Island of Ireland and our archers participate in
events across the British Isles.
Friendly and welcoming we do not take ourselves too seriously yet this does not mean
that the club does not have success - our archers hold
awards from local, national and
even world championship events.
As a club our archers host 'have-a-go' events for Youth, Pensioner Groups, Schools, Duke of Edinburgh
Award Scheme, local Fairs and Corporate Events (
contact us).
We run frequent classes for
beginners who
want to experience the sport of archery under the supervision of a qualified coach. We also welcome
new members who are already experienced in archery. Our archers practice Field as well as Target
archery in all styles - Long-Bow, Traditional, Recurve and Compound and several are members of other
organisations such as the British Long-Bow Society and the Traditional Archery Society of
Ireland. If you would like to know more contact us by completing the form on the
contacts page.
We meet on the Ards Rugby Football Club grounds at Lansdowne Road, Newtownards on
Thursday nights from April to August and in the Ards Leisure Centre, William Street,
Newtownards on Friday nights from September to March, for more details
see our
event schedule for details.
